Having a Karl Lagerfeld moment
Karl Lagerfeld passed away in February 2019. Then we had a pandemic, now we have the buzz of Karl Lagerfeld having a moment of recognition coming up.
The biggest news, is that the next Met Gala theme will be Karl Lagerfeld. This Gala will be in May 2023 and the show will be open to the public following that. The exhibit will center around all his designs for brands including Chanel, Balmain, Fendi, Chloe etc.I expect this one to be as big as the Alexander McQueen one (which was big!) Read more from Vogue here too.
Along with this, it was announced that Jared Leto has partnered with the design house of Karl Lagerfeld to create a biopic of the designer's life. Given Leto's transformations in the House of Gucci and WeCrashed, I expect this to be EPIC!
Along with these announcements, I think it is worth mentioning that with Lagerfeld's place in culture and the news he has plenty of statements that were less than stellar and some people, like public figure and influencer Jameela Jamil calling him out on Instagram.
Fall Fashion Trends - Printed Turtlenecks
I recently came across Jen Shoop's site Magpie (she describes it as a literary lifestyle blog) and I loved this post on a Microtrend. Patterned Turtlenecks.
This trend immediately made me think of 2019 and the Marine Serre moment with Beyoncé's Black is King. The turtleneck version is here.
Looking for some printed turtlenecks:
Appropriately priced: Doen, Ulla Johnson and Tory Burch
Fashion News Roundup
Daniel Lee, ex Bottega Venetta designer (nailed it with the handbags) takes over the reigns of Burberry from former designer Riccardo Tisci. Burberry needs a win from Lee to bring back some cultural relevance.
I love following Style Not Com and this Business of Fashion article shared so much about the man behind it, Beka Gvishiani, and his background. Excited to have another positive news source in the fashion space that shares the news in a super digestible way.

What I don't want to talk about
Two fashion week stories (one major) that I don't want to give more light to, but I certainly want people to be aware of the stories and trouble with these brands and highlighting them in a positive way.
First, this post from Evan Ross Katz sums up my Dolce & Gabbana plus Kim Kardashian thoughts very well. High Snobiety also covered.
Second, there has been a lot of ongoing drama with Kanye West and I'm not prepared to talk about all the nuances. Vogue published an opinion piece by Raven Smith. It will be interesting to see what platform Anna Wintour will continue to give West.
What else I ❤️️
Shana Tovah. Jewish Department Store history lesson. And thank you to the friend that posted this on her stories so I saw. Love it.
This bag rocks. Read the edgy reviews. Seriously though, is this a joke? I feel like I’m being punked. Check out the Kettlebell Travertine Stone Top Handle Bag from Nordstrom.
This Nordy podcast about how it is all about the merchandise and customer service. I totally agree with this.
I always get new nuggets from these interviews. Another Kendra Scott interview on the Who What Wear podcast, but great for hearing about her beliefs in running and growing a business.
Great fashion month round up from the Friend of a Friend podcast.
How WFH and pandemic work trends have changed the shopping neighborhoods.
