Gwyneth Paltrow Ski Trial Fashions
How is this even a headline? But seriously, we've been talking about "low key rich b!&ch" fashion for a few weeks here in my previous newsletter, this Love List newsletter and this Town and Country Magazine article. Well now we are seeing it come to life in two ways. First, the Gwyneth Paltrow Ski Trial (update, just ended and as The Cut says, Gwynnocent.)
Gwyneth's Caddis glasses got a lot of attention.
She's worn simple, elegant and stylish clothing. Pure luxury but with no logos. Many of her pieces are from her own Goop line. NYTimes Vanessa Friedman wrote about her styling for the trial here. (Yes, I am writing about an article dissecting fashion for a trial - what is happening this week?)
I have a minor speculation that the headlines and backlash she got the week before the trial started over this interview with her "diet" was hoping to shock and awe people in the GP way to take away from the headlines that were coming with the Ski Trial. But I think in the end it did more damage and the Ski Trial was actually not that bad for her image. It felt like more of a farce overall. (As in "I lost half a day of skiing.")
Via @jessnellgraves we are identifying and meme'ing the GP fashion from her recent ski trial.
Rich Fashion and Succession
And now we move from Rich Fashion and Gwyneth Paltrow to Succession. The first episode had a big fashion moment that social media had a field day with.
Tom's line about a "ludicrously capacious" bag that was very clearly Burberry sent search queries spiking for it. More here in WWD. And some other companies took advantage of the moment (like this tote.)
Amy Odell wrote a great recap for her newsletter of the fashion breakdown from the Season 4 Premiere.
I don't expect to see anyone toting around the obvious Burberry ludicrously capacious bag unless it is ironic. I do think a lot of the searches were to tag it or grab an image for memes and social media.
